UCLA falls to Florida, 73-65

The UCLA Bruins couldn’t overcome a poor shooting performance in a 73-65 loss to the Florida Gators.

UCLA finished with four players scoring in double figures, but received only two points from their bench.

Their struggles from behind the three-point arc and free throw line really came back to haunt them.

Josh Smith scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds, but had trouble staying out of foul trouble. (Read More…)

UCLA holds off Michigan State, 78-76

The UCLA Bruins build a huge lead and then had to hang on for a 78-76 win over the Michigan State Spartans.

UCLA jumped out to an early lead and never really looked back, at least not until midway through the second half.

With UCLA up by more than 20 points and less than 10 minutes to play, it looked like it was all over.

Instead, Michigan State mounted a furious rally, and they probably would have won had there been just a few more ticks left on the clock. They simply ran out of time. (Read More…)

UCLA stomps Arizona, 71-49

The UCLA Bruins made a statement to the nation in a 71-49 drubbing of the Arizona Wildcats.

The patented UCLA defense certainly did its job, holding Arizona to just 31 percent from the field and 21 percent from three-point range.

Reeves Nelson had a monster game, finishing with 27 points and 16 rebounds. Tyler Honeycutt added 15.

The Bruins hit the boards hard, outrebounding the Wildcats by 15. They also finished with 11 more assists than Arizona. (Read More…)

UCLA searching for new offensive coordinator

The UCLA Bruins will need a new offensive coordinator since Norm Chow is expected to be fired from the position.

San Francisco 49ers assistant coach Mike Johnson is currently the favorite to land the vacant job.

Chow came in with plenty of accolades from his time with USC and the Tennessee Titans, but the offense struggled to put points on the board.

Head coach Rick Neuheisal is an offensive-minded guy, so it’s no surprise that he opted to make a change. (Read More…)

UCLA embarassed by Oregon, 60-13

The UCLA Bruins never really had a fair chance in a 60-13 pummeling at the hands of the Oregon Ducks.

The Bruins, who have been very inconsistent this year but better of late, got off to a poor start and never recovered.

UCLA generated less than 300 yards of total offense, yet their defense surrendered nearly 600 yards to the Ducks.

It’s never easy playing in Autzen Stadium, but the atmosphere is just that much more raucous for a Thursday night game. (Read More…)

New Pistol offense lackluster in Spring Game

So far, not so good for the new-look UCLA Bruins offense.

Rick Neuheisel unvelieved the “pistol” at the annual Spring Game on Saturday, but the results couldn’t have left a good impression on the crowd. Designed to take advantage of quarterback Kevin Prince’s athleticism and running back Derrick Coleman’s running style, the offense sputtered throughout the game in front of 12,500 fans.

Setting up in a semi-shotgun, Prince finished the game 5-of-13 for 72 yards and an interception. He was inaccurate on most of his throws, a stark contrast to recent practices in which he has been sharp by all accounts. Prince also couldn’t get anything going in the running game.

Coleman fared better than his backfield mate, rushing six times for 64 yards and a touchdown.

Kicker Kai Forbath, the undisputed best kicker in the country heading into the season, was the one true bright spot for the Bruins offense. He connected on all four of his field goal attempts, including a 57-yarder.
